The purpose of this program is to challenge our students by broadening their exposure to culture, history, science, math, economics, art and faith, in accordance with their regular curriculum. This program is not designed to add more projects or homework, but to allow topics to be explored in a fun atmosphere.
Each month is designated to a certain topic. The schedule for the 2008-2009 year will be as follows:
October: Home Economics - cooking, baking, nutrition, manners, sewing, knitting/crocheting, interior design, home tools and woodworking November/December: Christmas shop, crafts, Nativity Play January/February: Bible school musical March: Math Olympics April/May: Evolution of Dance
In order to make this program possible, we will need the assistance of volunteers to help coordinate these projects with the teachers. These volunteers will be called “Fun D.A.E. Coordinators”. We will need approximately 3 coordinators per class. They will meet with teachers and be provided with guidelines, ideas, suggestions and informational websites to help them coordinate the monthly project. Ideally, you would be able to commit to 4 Fridays in a row, or the number needed for a particular topic, to keep consistency in the project. As always, these are volunteer hours and will count toward your 30 hours. A sign-up sheet will be outside each classroom for the month. Space is limited and planning time is essential, so please sign up a month prior.
